Many people mistakenly think that a) shawarma is a high-calorie dish and b) it is difficult to cook shawarma at home. I want to dispel these myths and rejoice those who love this juicy and hearty snack. I will share with you a recipe for a delicious diet sheet pan chicken shawarma ?
Ingredients
- 2 pcs thin pita
- 250 g chicken fillet
- 10-12 pcs lettuce leaves (you can substitute Peking cabbage leaves)
- 1 pcs cucumber
- 1 pcs tomato
- paprika, salt, black pepper (to taste)
- 2 tbsp. mayonnaise (you can replace it with sour cream or natural yoghurt)
- 2 tsp ketchup
- 1 tsp mustard
Instructions
- Prepare all the products. Wash and dry vegetables and chicken.
- Rub the chicken fillet with the spices. I have paprika, salt and black pepper. You can choose the spices to your taste.
- Preheat the oven to 180°C. While it is warming up, wrap the shawarma meat in parchment or foil (I have parchment), place it in a mould. Bake the chicken fillet in the spices for about 35-45 minutes.
- When the shawarma meat is ready, cool it and slice it into straws.
- Slice the cucumber into strips.
- And cut the tomato into similar slices.
- Make the sauce for the shawarma - mix mayonnaise, ketchup and mustard. I took low-calorie mayonnaise, but you can replace it with sour cream or natural yoghurt. The mustard is also to your taste, mine is a little sweet. Instead of ketchup, you can use any tomato sauce you like.
- Unroll the pita sheet on the table. Spread the sauce on one edge.
- Layer the lettuce leaves on top of the sauce, then the chicken and vegetables. Try to arrange the stuffing so that the pieces are side by side and facing the same direction, so the shawarma will be neater. Season the vegetables lightly with salt.
- Tuck the edges of the pita and roll your shawarma into a roll, carefully tucking in the filling. Make the second pita in the same way.
- Fry your shawarma a little on a dry frying pan on each side. If you want your shawarma with strips, use a grill pan.
- Delicious chicken shawarma homemade is ready to serve! I recommend cutting the shawarma in half for convenience.
