Homemade yellow split pea soup: good recipe (11 ingredients)

One of the most favourite soups in our family is yellow split pea soup with smoked meat! Hearty, rich, flavourful, and served with a great addition - with crispy croutons or breadcrumbs. In short, the perfect first course for a delicious lunch. I'm sharing our family recipe with you ?

Ingredients
  

  • 1.5 litres water (for a pot of 2.5 - 2.7 litres)
  • 100 g yellow split pea
  • 350 g smoked meat (I cooked pea soup with smoked chicken carcasses, you can choose any smoked meat to your taste)
  • 1 pcs onion
  • 2 pcs carrots
  • 4 pcs potatoes
  • 5 tbsp. frying oil
  • 2 pcs laurel leaf
  • salt, black pepper (to taste)
  • herbs (for decoration when serving)

Instructions
 

  • Prepare all the products.

  • Rinse the peas, pour 1 cup of water and leave to soak overnight. This will help eliminate the negative effects of peas on digestion. And such peas will boil faster.

  • Drain the water from the peas in which they were soaking. Transfer it to a small pot, pour water (1.5 cups) and put it on the fire.

  • When the peas boil, remove the foam.

  • Cook on a low heat for 40 minutes until tender, stirring occasionally to prevent the peas from sticking.

  • Peel and wash the vegetables: potatoes, onions and carrots.

  • Dice the onions and grate the carrots.

  • Heat a frying pan with oil.

  • Place the onions and carrots.

  • Fry them lightly over medium heat.

  • Cut the potatoes into random pieces.

  • The smoked chicken carcasses I divided into pieces to fit in the pan.

  • Pour cold water into the saucepan, put the potatoes and meat in it, and cook after boiling for 15 minutes.

  • Add salt, pepper to taste, bay leaf, peas cooked separately, roast. Stir and simmer after boiling for 5 minutes.

  • Remove the smoked meat from the soup and separate the meat from the bones.

  • Send the meat back to the pot and allow the pea soup to come to a good boil. Taste for salt, black pepper. Add more if needed.

  • Cover the pot with a lid, remove the pea soup from the heat and let it infuse for half an hour.

  • Delicious pea soup with smoked meat is ready! Serve it with croutons. Decorate with herbs, it will be even more flavourful.
